Religious Crosses, Silver Leather Necklaces and more

The gaucho tradition is one of the pillars of Argentine culture and history. The gaucho, whose lifestyle resembled that of the cowboy, is an emblematic icon in Argentina. Gaucho crafts are at the very essence of Argentine crafts.

Traditional crafts in Argentina are intertwined with the gaucho and his ways. At El Boyero you will find a variety of top quality gaucho crafts, such as the mate, knives, horses, leather braiding, and more Argentine crafts, each of these an integral part of the gaucho’s life.

Argentina has a solid tradition in handcrafting. Silverwork is one of the most traditional crafts in Argentina. It is also one of the country’s symbols, as the name Argentina derives from the Latin term for silver, “argentum”. Silver bracelets, necklaces, buckles, and knives are among the most popular Argentine crafts.

Leatherwork is also a classic among gaucho crafts. The origin of leather braiding, for which rawhide is used -contrary to saddlery where tanned leather is used- can be traced to the River Plate area (Río de La Plata), around 4 centuries ago. It is one of the most traditional crafts in Argentina. The technique has been handed down mostly through oral tradition.
